Well WSMR Kids - another dream is coming true. We have finally found a volunteer as Chairperson for a sixth ALL WSMR Kids reunion. I want to introduce Angela Rasmuson Dizazzo who resides in Houston Texas. She lived at WSMR in the 1987/1988 timeframe. Married to Pat Dizazzo and has two children. As a graduate of Silver City New Mexico High School in 1999, she is just what we have been looking for - younger blood to possibly bring younger ideas to the committee.
Working with Angela, we have Wendy Boetticher who has come forward to act as Treasurer and Dawn Young has volunteered to do advertising. Additionally, we have the faithful support of our webmaster, Jim Fulp. Remaining committee to be announced. Please welcome these WSMR Kids and wish them a successful reunion in 2015.
Angela may be reached via [email protected]
Wendy may be reached via [email protected]
Dawn may be reached via [email protected]
Jim may be reached via [email protected]
I had a meeting with Angela yesterday to discuss the wish list of what could be our sixth WSMR Kids reunion in 2015. She or her delegate may be contacting you for help with this committee.
Good luck to us all – hope to see you in 2015. - Bill Adler, Founder
A Message from our Committee Chairperson - Angela Dizazzo:
2/1/13 - Hello everyone! Sorry that it took me so long to get message out to everyone. I want to thank everyone who has offered to help. I have never done this before, so I’m learning as I go. Also, if your spouses are willing and able to help as well, that would be great. Please send me their name and/or email address for future reference.
Does anyone have connections with the base, the New Mexico Farm and Ranch Heritage Museum or experience with working with large hotels? The last committee used the New Mexico Farm and Ranch Heritage Museum for the dinner dance and had the meal catered.
Hotel Encanto (http://www.hotelencanto.com/ ) has always been the primary meeting place, registration and social event location.
Everyone, please send me your thoughts and ideas for this reunion. The ones that are underlined and in bold are the ones that are on top of Bill’s list, so let’s start with those and work our way down. Some ideas we have so far are:
1. Picnic in Las Cruces maybe Apodoca Park, and/or picnic on base across from Youth Center where the old trailer park used to be.
2. Base visit. Depending on policy at the time whether or not we can drive on base with ID’s and proof of insurance or have to pay for buses to pick us up.
3. Museum visit before they close
4. Missile park visit (Base museum and missile park are two easy ones. No planning other than allotting a time to visit both. Maybe an hour.)
5. Technical area (Have done Victorio Peak in Humbrillo Canyon and the Trinity Site.)
6. Take a peek into the old school
7. Maybe visit the theater with a welcome from the Commanding Officer
8. Luncheon at the Officers club (now the Community Club?)
9. Visit Youth Center – Dance, visit present kids, hot dogs – all kinds of activities jointly with them
10. Picnic on base
11. Picnic at White Sands National Monument on Sunday
12. Dinner dance
